Composer Burns has here created a dramatic and compelling work based on the Polish National Anthem. After a powerful and florid opening, the anthem theme is first stated simply in the clarinet choir. This theme is then taken through a series of increasingly exciting and powerful treatments, finally arriving at a breathtaking, heroic moment near the end that parallels Poland’s struggles and triumphs as a country. A grand musical statement worthy of the finest bands!
