4 French Horns
Because the modern French horn is the descendent of the hunting horn, composers have often used the horn to evoke images and sounds of the hunt. There is a characteristic style associated with the hunt, and hence with the horn, including 6/8 meter and certain rhythms and intervals. Three Hunting Songs includes pieces adapted from Schubert's lieder. Two of them are in the style of horn calls and the other a contemplative Hunters Serenade. They can be played separately or as a suite.
