Middlebury is an old shaped note tune that first appeared in the early 1800’s in Davisson’s Supplement to the Kentucky Harmony. The arranger has here created a beautiful fantasia-like treatment of this hymn tune, starting with a free transcription of the original tune, then moving at faster tempo to a section that features imitative treatment of the hymn tune, concluding with a final statement of the hymn. This is profoundly moving music that could be a huge asset to the musicality your string program.
